RE: Stunning Newell coach!

If that coach is not a scam I have learned something. I have always been told that any motor driven vehicle single unit in excess of 45' on US highways are illegalMaybe that is why it is sitting in a resort and for sale on ebay.
There are over 40.000 miles on the clock. So the coach must have been driven somewhere.

RE: changing engines

Can you even get the old engine out and a new one in. I am thinking that the engine sits already on the chassis and the MH is build around it, what kind of damage will you have to do just to get the old engine out?

RE: Anyone towed a Town & Country mini van?

I got a 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan. According to the owner manual, the GC should only be towed with all 4 wheels OFF the ground.

RE: Chevy Volt - towable? How about AC & Heat?

The Volt looks to me like an enclosed golf cart. Where do you put the family of 5, including a couple of six and a half footers? If the auto makers are serious about saving petroleum the will make hi-bred half and three quarter ton vans. The size used by plumbers, electricians, and all the other service companies.
Agree. I am a service tech. for medical equipment manufacturer. I drive all day to care homes and hospitals etc. I carry tools and spare parts in an 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan. I travel around 50.000 miles per year in this vehicel. The cost of fuel is a huge factor in this line of work, but there are no hybrids availbale that would make sense for us.
Ford Escape Hybrid.
I don't think so. I drive a Grand Caravan with the last row of seats folded down. How will I get my parts and tools into an Escape?? When I go for a 1000mile road trip I need to have all parts with me. I cannot wait 2 to 3 days to get the parts I may need when I am in a rual area in Northern Alberta. Next day delivery is not available up here.
I am not sure if a hybrid will give me better mpg. Only around 10% of my driving is city driving.

RE: Stabil or fill it up?

You should do both. Fill up and stabi.
If you live in an area wich constantly swinging temperatures between freezin and not freezing, contensation can form in your tank and you will litterly collect water in your tank. If you fill up, the volume of air to collect the moisture is much less and less condensation can form.
The Stabi will prevent your gas tuning bad over the winter month. This can happen no mater how much gas is in your tank.

RE: changing oil on generator

Living in Texas, Why would you switch to 5W30? I would say that that is way to thin for your climate.
One factor engine manufacturer use to determin what kind of quil to use are the lolerances used building the engine. Usualy a performance engine will need a lot thinner oil simply because the "cab's" inbetween the moving parts are a lot smaller and a thick oil may not flow right. The same on the opposite. If the "cab's" between all the moving parts are bigger, a thicker oil is desired.
Unless you need a oil that has a better viscosity in cold weather you should not change it to a much thinner oil.
The advantage of 5W30 over 15W40 is that it will not thicken as quick in very cold weather, like we got here in Canada.

RE: RVIA Promotes Improved Trailer Design

I have been home in Germany a few years back and we rented a Camper over there. We were towing a Sudwind 650FSK behind a Merzedes 230CDI
The trailer was around 29ft long and got a weight of under 4000#. I had no problem traveling over 100KMpH on the Autobahn (100 is the speedlimit for this trailer).
I found the design very inovativ. Many things you simply don't see on North American campers.
Here is a link the the trailer we had http://www.knaus.de/en/topmenu/caravans/suedwind/interior-views.html?tx_gsislideshow_pi1%5BshowUid%5D=572
One thing to keep in mind is that many european camper don't have fresh, black or grey water tanks the way we know them here. We had a 5 gal fresh water tank. The LP tanks were 2 11kg PLASTIK tanks.

RE: Dinghy Tow 2007 Grand Vitara

I had a 2007 grand Virtara had problems w/getting in neutral .Was afraid I might pull it and messup tranny only got 17000 for it.had 6200 miles.I was relly ticked about how much lost in value paid 27000.The mpg was only 18-19.Might want to ck something else.
I had the same problem with tranny, until i found out to take out key before getting in neutral. I get 22 mpg all the time.
We purchased the Vitara. Played around with it and had no problem getting it into neutral when I follow the instruction in the manual.
The first 2 weeks of driving I got 23 - 24 mpg driving in the city. I actually think that this little thing is fun to drive.
I have to agree with the pricing. We purchased this one used. its one and a half years old and got 17,000 miles. We got the loaded one with lether and V6. I believe the 07 price would have been somewhere around $35,000 canadian and we now paid $20,000 which included the tow bar, base plate and the lights wired. Good for me I guess :C

RE: Changing Brake Fliud on W22

I have changed brake fluid before but not on a MH. The MH got 18,000 miles on it and I don't know if the previous owner changed it in the past or not. Same with the tranny. At this point I assume that Tranny filters/fluid, Genny oil, engine oil, chassis lube and brake fluid have never been serviced. I am not saying that is has not, but this way I know when it was done and what fluids I am running.
Let's see what other fun things I come up with during the long winter ahead of me. So far I have not done any mods other than installing my old solar system that I used on my camper. Which makes me wonder, did I ever tell the guy that bought my camper that there are holes in the roof from my solar panel? UPS!!!!:h

RE: Driving comfort Class A vs Class C??

I am just under 7 feet tall. I found class C with slide to be a NO NO. I was not able to sit behind the wheele. The class A is much roomier. I also like the openness when I look outside the windshield. I feel much more comfortable in a class A. Class C cabs are too tight for my tast. Ohh and did I say that I can actually see all of the mountains in front of me. ALL THE WAY TO THE PEAK. without haveing the cab on top of me block my vision.

Changing Brake Fliud on W22

HI All.
Still no snow up here, so I am planning on changing brake fluid over the weekend.
Now my manual tells me to use DOT3 but I cannot find how much I will need. Does anybody out here know?? I don't want to get too much and have it go bad on me until I need it again.
Also should I stick with DOT3 or should I get into DOT4??

RE: Class A being towed. For those that wonder how..

Not sure where the French/English thing came from it is way OT.
However, French is spoken in Quebec and signage in Quebec is exclusively French. In most of the rest of Canada the primary language is English but French is generally required in school and most signage and packaging is both in French and English. However Canadian is a variant of English that is slightly different from how we speak in the US of A, aye! (I almost forgot about the Acadians in Nova Scotia who also speak French)
THank you, for correcting,
Now when it comes to signage the boder between English only and bilingual is right in Winnipeg Manitoba. The Red River comes up from the USA and goes right thru downtown Winnipeg. You will see that west of the river signs are english only and east of the river, signage is usually in both languages.
I worked for a company that is opearting photo enforcement system in Winnipeg and I always found it wired when traffic tickets got thrown out in court because of some frensh spelling mistake or so, sometime simply because the ticket only stated that the color was RED and not ROUGE.
